How It Works
So you want to know more? I'm sure you'll find maddness to my method. Here we go (I am the master of the run-on sentence) ...
History
I have been fascinated with lotteries, and writing programs to analyze the data since I was in high school (at that time, the only lotteries available to me were the three digit daily number type).
When I started this, I decided that it was time to take a serious run at winning the lottery.
This project started very simple, but it has grown to be much more complex. I wanted a program that would tell me what numbers to play for any lottery based on analysis, and print the slips for those numbers (so I didn't make an error when filling out the slips).
Looking at multiple lotteries also covers me for when the State or other governing body changes the format of thier lottery - this has happened many times. It quickly became apparent that tracking many wheel systems for many lotteries, results in an extremely large database, and that I would need a method of viewing the massive amount of information I had.
So I setup this web site. It was then I determined that for all of the things to get done in a timely fashion for every lottery it was necessary to break my one program into three parts.
At about the same time I stumbled across my Canadian friends at
lotto649.ws
, and saw that I am not alone - several there were trying their own methods of picking winners. Since then, they have split into two groups - you'll find links to both under "Discussion Groups" on the left. If you want to talk lottery - check them out, they're pretty cool people.
Once I started down this path, I realized that I could use this site as a
Reference
for potential customers - if I sent you here for that purpose, then keep in mind that we can do just about anything (the only question is cost and time). And as part of my
Resume
, if I sent you here for that purpose - additionally I designed, setup, and maintain, the web server, the database server, and the network and firewall that they are on.
For the first two years everything was on a single computer (an old laptop Pentium II / 300 with 192 MB, and a small hard disk - using my cable modem. The CD-ROM, and the Display were broken and non functioning, I had also vacuumed off several of the key caps).
Technical Information
Currently their are four parts to my 'work in progress':
Web Site
(Cold Fusion Application)
provides a method of viewing the database.
There are three parts to this web site:
Public Interface (this is the part that everyone can see)
Member Interface (this is that part that members can see once they login, members can update their personal information, download the latest version of my program, manage their pools, and in special cases enter lottery data)
Management Interface (this is the part that I use to update some of the dynamic content, and see the status of everything that is happening on the site)
There is some static text on this site, but the vast majority comes from the database. The site has many features, including a "Pools" feature that members can use to track their plays. I use this from time to time when I run pools, I tell all the participants to go to the web site to see what tickets we are playing and to check the results (it's easier than making photocopies of all of the tickets and distributing them).
Since the site is free, I have limited membership. I don't want to crush one of my servers over something I'm giving away.
In order to limit the amount of disk space this site uses, I only keep about 7 drawings worth of ticket information for each lottery.
LFDR
(VisualBasic Application)
checks the internet for the latest winning numbers for each lottery, and if available store them in the database. My favorite lottery results are usually available about an hour after each drawing.
LFDP
(VisualBasic Application)
checks the database for new winning numbers.
checks existing tickets for winners.
performs analysis on entire history using best parameters found so far for that lottery and generates new forecast.
generates new tickets, and purges old tickets (I only keep 7 drawings worth of tickets for any lottery).
sends out notification to subscribers.
checks work queue status, and adds new items for that lottery.
LFSIM
(VisualBasic Application)
it runs analysis as defined by the database (work queue), and reports the results.
it prints playslips.
(this is the part that members can run, it works much like SETI at home and other multi-computer / cpu-farming projects - you download and install a small client program that gets information to process from a central server, processes that information, and then reports the results to the database.)
